Info for Travelers

Are you looking for some tips, hotel suggestions, etc.? Here we have compiled a list based on our travels, with information separated into two categories: General Travel Information, and Information by Country.

GENERAL TRAVEL INFORMATION

Lonely Planet
We love guidebooks, and we hate 'em too. But Lonely Planet is the cream of the crop when it comes to international travel. Just be warned: if you are backpacking around the world, you might consider getting your guidebooks on Kindle, rather than packing the weight of a traditional book(s).

Wikitravel
For current and updated information, check out Wikitravel. However, keep in mind that although wikitravel is moderated, anyone can post information, including happy travelers, angry travelers, hotel owners, and the like. Just take the info with a grain of salt.

HitchHiking Wikipedia
Like WikiTravel, but for hitchhikers! Real information is submitted by hitchhikers all around the world: get tips and suggestions for hitchhiking, and even techniques for specific cities!

Matador Network
A site that encourages independent travel. Tons of great articles, opportunities for contributing travel writers, packing essentials, etc. Clever and contemporary.

Couchsurfing
We love couchsurfing!! It is an incredible way to meet people and to gain insights into local living. We, so far, have couchsurfed in China, India, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Italy, France, and Morocco...the list keeps growing.

BootsnAll
Great articles on travel and oriented towards the Independent Traveler. BootsnAll is a great resource for around the world travel.

TRAVEL INFORMATION BY COUNTRY
The following information includes hotel information for each country (with city in parenthesis). Clicking on the country name, when underlined, will take you to a additional tips and tricks and recommendations and suggestions. Enjoy!

JAPAN

CHINA
7 Days Inn was a basic hotel that we found convenient and easy. They have internet wires in the rooms, basic and comfortable rooms, television, and if you join the "club" you get the eighth night free! locations can be found all throughout China.

THAILAND
Shanti Lodge (Bangkok) is a great hotel for those who like to hang out with other travelers. Great communal space, slightly expensive. I don't recommend the masseuses, better to try next door.

Basar Guesthouse (Trat): amazing place, amazing owner. It was hard to leave this special place. Tell Noi we say hi! We were sorry not to make it to her other place - Pandan - let us know how it is!

Island Hut (Koh Mak Island): cheap and cute bungalows on the beach for 350 baht per night. The cooking school up the street makes an mean mixed seafood noodle plate.

INDIA

ETHIOPIA

GHANA and TOGO

COLOMBIA
Hotel Oso Perezoso (Taganga): we're biased. It's our hotel. It's amazing. You will love it.

Hotel El Miramar (Santa Marta): We are co-owners of this one. Cheaper than Oso Perezoso and a great place to meet other travelers. Plenty of accommodation options.

Casa Viena (Cartagena): great hostel in a great part of cartagena. Cheap rates, highly recommended.

Hotel Platypus (Bogota): fantastic hostel in a super location. Professional and affordable and super welcoming.
